Recently, China International Poverty Reduction Center announced the results of approved research projects in 2020. After expert review and program evaluation, a total of 6 research projects are approved this year. Professor Wu Haitao from the Department of Agricultural Economic Management of our School served as the chief expert and applied for the project of research on international experience in establishing a long-term mechanism to address relative poverty, which is successfully approved. Meanwhile, the experts with approved research projects also include Professor Hu Biliang, a famous economist and outstanding alumni in Agricultural Economic Management programme of Class 1979 in our School.

Under the background that Chinas poverty governance focuses on relative poverty, this approved project systematically sorts out the experience in international relative poverty governance from the aspects of relative poverty identification, micro subject participation, grassroots organization governance, macro poverty reduction policy design, etc., summarizes the regional characteristics and practical effects of international relative poverty, develops specific cases to summarize the international experience in establishing a long-term mechanism for addressing relative poverty, and contributes Chinese wisdom to the establishment of long-term mechanism for poverty reduction in other countries.

It is reported that China International Poverty Reduction Center is an international poverty alleviation organization directly under the Poverty Alleviation Office of the State Council and jointly initiated and established by the Chinese government and the United Nations Development Programme and other international organizations. Its main responsibilities include poverty reduction research, exchange, cooperation, training at home and abroad and foreign investment project management. It is an international platform in the field of poverty reduction and an important channel for the Chinese government to carry out South-South Cooperation. Since the Fourth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee, the focus of poverty alleviation and development has gradually shifted from addressing absolute poverty to addressing relative poverty. Establishing a long-term mechanism for addressing relative poverty will be the key content of poverty alleviation research in China in the future. After fierce competition, this research project is successfully approved, and it is another breakthrough of our School in the domestic poverty research field after the “Research on Multidimensional Identification and Collaborative Governance of Relative Poverty in China” is approved as a major program of National Social Science Foundation. It highlights the overall strength and competitiveness of our research team, and further improves the professional popularity and social recognition of agricultural economy discipline in our university.
